Why We Gift Wednesday (Take a Break Edition)

Why We Gift Wednesday (Take a Break Edition)

Welcome to Why We Gift Wednesday! Each week, we celebrate one of the thousands of reasons that we truly love giving. Whether it’s honoring the relationships that we have, feeling grateful for an occasion or a special time of year, or relishing life’s simple joys, Why We Gift Wednesday is all about giving and generosity – the expression of appreciation for life’s many happy moments. When we take a walk through our neighborhoods in the summertime, we often see large garden plots that look absolutely perfect – neatly tilled rows, weeds cleared away, big happy zucchini plants splaying out every which way… so many home gardeners make it look totally easy to tend and grow a great garden. But the truth is, it takes a whole heap of work, both mental and physical. Even while it’s still during the winter, most home gardeners are already planning and preparing for the layout and schedule of this spring and summer’s garden. It’s good for the soil to not plant the same thing in the same area year after year, so most gardens tend to change. And the schedule varies greatly, region by region and plant by plant. Planning and scheduling a successful garden takes just as much brain power as it does physical labor. In April and May (and sometimes as early as March), we start to see those home gardeners head outside with their gloves, shovels, tillers, seeds and all the tools they need to start this year’s garden. All throughout the hot summer months they’re out there, too. For what seems like hours, home gardeners work away in the hot sun, turning over the soil...

Why We Gift Wednesday (Walk in the Woods Edition)

Why We Gift Wednesday (Walk in the Woods Edition)

Welcome to Why We Gift Wednesday! Each week, we celebrate one of the thousands of reasons that we truly love giving. Whether it’s honoring the relationships that we have, feeling grateful for an occasion or a special time of year, or relishing life’s simple joys, Why We Gift Wednesday is all about giving and generosity – the expression of appreciation for life’s many happy moments. Spring has sprung! Here in the Pacific Northwest we’re enjoying blooming tulips, daffodils, hyacinth and lots and lots (and lots) of budding green trees. One of Oregonian and Washingtonians’ favorite pastimes is hiking, or in the very least taking a stroll through our dense forests that cover almost 50% of each state!  There’s something so wonderful and magical about a hike or a walk through the forest – towering trees, a million shades of green, the only sounds coming from breezes through branches, babbling brooks and chirping birds. If you’re living in a state that’s lucky enough to be in the middle of a gorgeous spring season, take some time to gather with a loved one or two and take a walk in the woods. And if you’re (or someone you care about is) still buried under several feet of frozen tundra, why not send them a little bit of spring? A little sunshine can go a long way to bringing that spring feeling to the indoors, no matter how frightful the weather outdoors may be.     Comment Below Who is your favorite person to walk in the woods...
Picnic Wine Pairings

Picnic Wine Pairings

Bit by bit, temperatures are rising which means it’s time to brush off the dust of winter and step outside. Few things are better on those bright, sunny days than a picnic with loved ones. Whether planned in advance or last minute, our suggestions for perfect picnic wine pairings will make sure that your adventure is a tasty success. Sometimes the best picnics are the ones that are planned last minute. Create a quick platter with whatever cheeses and fruits you have at home. Grab a bottle of chilled rosé, like our Chandon Brut Rosé Crate, from the fridge on your way out the door. The mix of acidity like that of white wines and the fruitiness like that of red wines will pair perfectly with the cheeses. Fresh fish and seafood are a light, summertime favorite. For tuna salad, shrimp pasta and other fish dishes, reach for the chardonnay. Our California Classic Wine Basket with an Aurin Estates California chardonnay features hints of toasted hazelnuts and honeydew melon, followed by Meyer lemon and vanilla bean, which pairs perfectly with most seafoods. (Plus, the beautiful keepsake gift basket is perfect for toting your picnic in.) Though summer is often thought of as the season of white wines, red wines still have their place among the heat. When grilling or barbecuing, reach for a cabernet sauvignon, like our Silver Oak Alexander Valley Wine Crate. Red meat and lamb chops pair exceptionally well with cabernets due to the tannins refreshing the palate with every bite which accents the distinct flavors of the meat. Bright, cool, and bubbly, champagne is a staple picnic wine. Once the sun sets, head outside...
Think Pink! The New Rosé Collection

Think Pink! The New Rosé Collection

Whether it’s still or sparkling, the blushy-hued wine known as Rosé’s originations began in France – a lot longer ago than you might think. Provence, a region in the south of France, is the birthplace of vineyards, winemaking and you guessed it- Rosé. As early as 600 BC, ancient Greeks were planting vineyards in the area, and winemaking became the cultural way of life in Provence. In those times, all wine was commonly pale in color; as pale as today’s Rosé. After the Greeks came the Romans in 125 BC, and even with the Romans’ introduction of red wine, Rosé held strong and remained the lifeblood of Provincia Romana. Fast forward about 2600 years and Rosé is seeing a resurgence in popularity – for the past decade or so, Rosés made in Provence, Italy and Spain (where it’s knows as Rosado) and the United States have seen an upswing in production and sales, and it’s no surprise. With its dry acidity and crispness, luscious flavors and aromas of watermelon, strawberries and cherries, Rosé is just plain delicious. That dry acidity results in a low sugar content, and in turn a low alcohol content, making it perfectly sippable and great to give as a gift. Here at GiftTree, we love Rosé so much, we decided to release a new Spring Rosé Collection – a blushing and fun-filled curation of gifts for Mother’s Day, Spring birthdays, wedding season and everything in between. Get ready to Think Pink! Introducing the Rosé Collection     First up is our Chandon Brut Rosé Crate. The California sparkling wine masters at Domaine Chandon have created a lush and delicious Brut Rosé...
