Meet The Team: Jessica Rechkemmer

At GiftTree we strive to make each interaction that you have with us distinctive and memorable. From our website, to our social media conversations, and our special email offers, we want each touch point that you have with us to be streamlined and effortless. One of the key people who helps keep our communication and messaging on point and cohesive, is our Director of Marketing, Jessica Rechkemmer. We sat down with Jessica to talk inspiration, creativity, and a little bit of life too. Tell us a little bit about where you grew up.  I grew up in the small town of Clear Lake, Iowa. My parents bought an abandoned farm with 10 acres in the country and we made it our home! We had a bunch of furry critters around the farm including dogs, cats, and horses. My mom is also an avid gardener, so she spent a lot of time cultivating organic fruits and vegetables for our family meals. She also lobbied against the farmers in our area to stop spraying pesticides. Even though Clear Lake is a small town, it does have a claim to fame – Richie Valens (La Bamba), Buddy Holly, and J.P. “The Big Bopper” Richardson, all performed at the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake (and then tragically died in a plane crash.) Growing up with the historic Surf Ballroom nearby allowed my love of live music to grow at a young age. Where do your greatest passions lie? Spending time with my family and friends. Gardening, enjoying music, decorating, drinking wine, and eating delicious food. Where would we most likely find you on the weekends? Portland has a...

Friday’s Featured Artisan: Dune Jewelry’s Holly Daniels Christensen

Welcome to Friday’s Featured Artisan! Each week, we focus on one of the many talented individuals and companies whose perfect products are proudly featured in GiftTree gifts. It may be a master chocolatier, a gourmet cheesemonger or a talented artist – GiftTree is here to connect their meaningful stories to the contents of your next great gift. What if you could capture a precious place – one that’s full of fond memories – and keep it with you always? Friday’s Featured Artisan, Dune Jewelry, does just that. Using the unique colors and grains of the world’s sands as her palette, Dune Jewelry’s Holly Daniels Christensen created a line of keepsake jewelry using sand to honor those favorite memories. Originally from Cape Cod, Holly traveled to beaches all around the world and realized that nearly everyone has a precious memory or exciting adventure that took place on a strip of sand. This unforgettable jewelry is specifically made for those who wish to hold on to those places forever – whether it was a childhood trip, where he proposed, where you spent your honeymoon or a summer abroad. Serving more as keepsakes than decorations, Dune Jewelry’s custom designs are the perfect gift to hold a special beach in your heart. Here’s how it works: select a sand from your favorite beach, ballpark, golf course or trail from Dune Jewelry’s extensive sand bank to be hand crafted by Sand Artists into a one-of-a-kind piece. Every piece of jewelry is custom made to order, and GiftTree has collaborated with Holly and Dune Jewelry to offer three exceptional pieces – a set of fine cuff links, a hammered shimmering gold cuff bracelet, and...
Martin’s Musings: The Best Gift I Ever Gave

Martin’s Musings: The Best Gift I Ever Gave

When I first started dating my (now) wife Liz, we had a bottle of Perrier-Jouët Belle Époque champagne on our first Valentine’s Day together. That was fun, but not the point of this little story.  The fun part came when I took the bottle and had a glass blower turn it into a vase.  After a miniature research project, I found some Japanese white anemones to put in the vase.   Well, I must say the look on her face when I gave her the vase with flowers on our first anniversary gave me one of the best feelings of my gift giving life.  It is what you want, to be personal, thoughtful and connect with the person you love.  The only problem is that I set an impossible standard! Nonetheless, this feeling is the inspiration for our Perrier-Jouët Luxury Collection this spring at GiftTree.   For mothers, lovers or people to whom you just want to send something beautiful, it will make quite the connection.   The history of the flower bottle is pretty interesting.  Henri Gallice was the owner of the champagne house in 1902 when he commissioned the artist Émile Gallé  to upgrade the packaging at Perrier-Jouët.  Oddly enough, the reaction from those who he showed it to was tepid, and he chose not to have it put into production.  Happily though, they stumbled upon a few bottles in 1964 and realized how beautiful the design was.  With much fanfare, they produced their first edition of Belle Époque a few years later to celebrate the 70th birthday of Duke Ellington.  So, if you are looking for a way to enjoy...

I have a bachelor’s degree in Art and Design from the Art Institute of Phoenix. Since 2003 I have been working as a designer in all different avenues from television to fashion. Where do you get your inspiration? I think I get most of my inspiration when I just simply take a walk outside. When did you become interested in design? I would have to say my interest came when I was a little girl and used to draw on my plastic play kitchen. I’ve always loved art and everything that comes with it. What is your proudest accomplishment as a designer? Designing an entire clothing line and throwing a fashion show in Malibu, CA. Can you describe your style in just a few words? My style is a fusion of elegance and peculiarity, with a little adventure thrown in just to keep people on their toes. What are your two favorite gift basket designs we have at GiftTree? Tropical Indulgence Gourmet Tower and Little Chef Embroidered Gift Set If you had the freedom to design anything, anywhere, what would...
