Do You Hear Bagpipes?

My job at GiftTree takes me around the world looking for new products for our customers. One of the best venues are trade shows. The International Home and Housewares Show in Chicago takes place during St. Paddy’s Day festivities and I am scheduled to attend. Lucky me! Chicago is a city that embraces the Irish culture with widespread celebrations during St. Patrick’s Day. While most people settle for green food dye in their beer, the Windy City dyes its river green and hosts fabulous parades. A crowd of 300,000 Irish and Irish-wanabees are expected to line the streets (make that 300,001) for the downtown parade alone. Most revelers will be seeking out true Irish fare after the parade. Although shepherd’s pie is tempting, I don’t get to Chicago on a regular basis. I think I just might break tradition and seek out some of the city’s more famous deep dish pizza and give a nod to the Italian in...

Does Hallmark Have a Card for That?

Somebody with too much time on their hands must have looked at March and decided to create a few extra holidays. Some of my favorite odd holidays include: March 3rd – What if Cats and Dogs Had Opposable Thumbs Day March 4th – International Scrap Booking Day March 9th – Panic Day March 18th – Awkward Moments Day. It is also Forgive Mom and Dad Day. (It seems a little redundant. Most of my awkward moments are typically generated by my parents.) March 26th – Make Up your Own Holiday Day Now that you are aware of these holidays, I have you covered if you need any gifts to help the celebration process. Check out GiftTree’s pet gifts. If Cats and Dogs Has Opposable Thumbs, they would be able to get into the adorable Cat and Dog Treat Jars. For the scrap bookers, the Digital Photo Album is a must. If you ever panic because you have forgotten to send someone a gift, look into GiftTree’s Last Minute Gifts. There’s quite a selection. I personally like the Bear Hug. Everything on the site is tailor made to make gift giving easy and fun. Go ahead, make up your own holiday. GiftTree has a gift for...

Ha-Ha, April Fools!

Get’ em good. April Fools’ Day is the one day a year everyone plays practical jokes and gets away with it. Here are some of my favorites. Family Fun: 1. If you have a faucet with a sprayer, put a rubber band around the handle when nobody is looking. The nnext person to use the sink will get drenched. 2. An oldie but goodie – superglue a coin to a busy sidewalk. Make sure to use a dime or a quarter. Hardly anybody picks up pennies anymore. Watch people get creative trying to pry up the coins with no success. For even more fun, rip a piece of cloth when the person bends down to pick up the coin. They’ll think they need a sewing kit to repair their pants. It’s a classic! For the Office: 1. Make a batch of cupcakes and frost them with toothpaste. Ask your office mates to “help themselves”. 2. Get in early or stay late the night before and cover the bottom of everyone’s mouse with a piece of tape. You will be surprised how long it takes people to figure out the problem. If you want to send a gift that is a practical joke in itself, GiftTree has a couple of great options. The Chain Wine Bottle Holder creates the optical illusion of a heavy duty chain suspending a bottle above the table. Olivina Chocolate Covered Hazelnut Nougats are a sweet surprise. They look just like olives, but they are actually a great tasting confection. My favorite is Don’t Break the Bottle! It’s a puzzle placed on a wine bottle. The...

Egg Hunts and Chocolate Bunnies

Easter in my family was always one of the most exciting holidays. Perhaps it was because I believed in the Easter Bunny well beyond the normal age of 6 years old. (I think I was 10 before I finally had to admit it was my mother hiding the basket behind the chair on Easter morning.) Maybe it was just all the chocolate I could eat that made me love the holiday. Whatever it was, I was sold on it. Easter is really early this year (March 23rd). GiftTree is offering some really great chocolates specifically suited for Easter celebrations. My favorite is the Edible Chocolate Box. It is a box made entirely of white and dark chocolate and then filled with 18 truffles. Another one is the Chocolate Easter Basket. It is a really simple, eco-friendly paper mache basket filled with egg shaped truffles. The truffles in the gift are a little more cutting edge than most (try the peanut butter and jelly – it’s...

Ooh La La: Valentines’ Fondue for Two

I really like how unique and versatile the Valentines’ Fondue for Two is. It is just as appropriate as a housewarming gift as it is for Valentine’s Day for my sweetie. It has everything you need but the berries and includes several treats, all packaged in a keepsake leather...
