The Art of Phoenician Pastries

Everyone loves a sweet treat and yet most Americans associate baked sweets with cookies and cakes. Enter Phoenicia Patisserie, a traditional Mediterranean bakery with an incredible variety of exotic confections. Using century old family recipes, bakers blend the rich flavor of pine nuts, pistachios, and cashews with delicate phyllo, crunchy shredded pastry, and a touch of sweetness. The result is a sublime marriage of textures and tastes unlike any American pastry you’ve ever had. Not only do these delicacies taste fantastic, but they have beautiful presentation. Take for instance the “Pine Nut Bird’s Nest,” which features golden baked pistachios encased by shredded pastry. Also be sure to see “Pistachio Nut Diamonds,” which is a bed of finely chopped green pistachios crowned with so many layers of phyllo that they defy counting. You can find these sumptuous delights in a number of our gift baskets, but a customer favorite is Gourmet Feast, where the pastries can be found alongside raspberry cookies, truffles, lemon drops, and almond...

Don’t Try This at Home

There are many creative people in this world, but let me dispel any myths right away – I am not one of them. And not everyone that works for a gift basket company is destined to be a designer. (GiftTree’s talented Design Team can attest to this). Since joining the ranks at GiftTree, I have often looked back to Christmas of 1995. This is the Christmas that I thought it would be fun to make a gift basket for a family member. Oh, the horror…I decided on an ice cream theme and went to a large “one-stop-shop” store where I purchased a wicker basket, some colorful shredded paper, and several ice cream related items to include in the basket. After spending more money than I was planning, I went home to attempt to put my inner creative genius to work. I just knew this gift basket would be my masterpiece and everyone would be appropriately impressed. I quickly realized that I did not have nearly enough to fill the basket. It didn’t occur to me to choose a smaller basket, so back to the store I went. This process took a majority of my day and by the time I finished, the gift basket was extremely heavy, it had every ice cream related product you can imagine, nothing coordinated, and it looked terrible. Unfortunately, I don’t mean it just looked bad. I mean it was painfully hideous and people were surely embarrassed for me. So, thank you GiftTree; thank you GiftTree designers, and thank you to my family member that graciously accepted that infamous gift basket of 1995. My...

Hard to Impress In-Laws?

If you’ve ever had your in-laws come for a weekend visit, you know what training is like for the Olympics! You leave no detail unnoticed and every dust bunny exterminated. What better way to impress your in-laws than by setting the Bath & Body Invigoration gift basket in their guest room. It has a vast array of items including: a small hairbrush, comb, exfoliating soap, lip balm, hand creme, shower soap, facial cleanser and more. SO maybe instead of telling you how to raise your kids, they’ll be so relaxed and rejuvinated that they’ll compliment you on how clean your house is compared to your sister in-laws. Well, you can’t change the world with one Bath & Body Invigoration basket, or can...

Enjoying Gourmet Mustards

An often overlooked but classical epicurean item is mustard. Mustard is noteworthy because, like any other fine cheese or wine, there are many varieties that afford a wide spectrum of tastes. Two of my favorite gourmet mustards that we use in our GiftTree baskets are the Willamette Valley Mustards’ Sweet ‘n Hot Stone Ground Mustard and the Robert Rothschild Farm’s Raspberry Wasabi Dipping Mustard. The “WVM” mustard is a classical, German-styled mixture of stone ground seeds, spices, and honey. It has a flush savory quality to it, and is excellent with pork, sausages, and full-bodied cheeses. We use it in our Grand Indulgence basket, where it pairs nicely with Camembert cheese, smoked salmon, caviar, and pretzels. Also not to be forgotten is the Rothschild Raspberry Wasabi mustard. Like many successful marriages of sweet and spicy ingredients, this mustard delivers a piquant rush of flavor that stimulates the palate. We use the sweet and spicy qualities of the mustard to enhance the crisp and dry qualities of champagne in our Champagne Wishes basket. We know that our customers possess attuned palettes, and we strive to heighten their epicurean pleasures by offering the finest gourmet items in interesting pairings. Next week: the art of Phoenician...

Keeping the Looking Good, Looking Good!

Undoubtedly one of the most popular products asked for by our corporate clients is a product called The Corporate Clincher. As if the name doesn’t say it all, I had a corporate customer this past year who ordered over 100 of them to be sent to his business associates. When I jokingly said, “Wow, are you sure that’s enough?” he replied, “I wish it was, but I’m sure there’ll be a few more to add later. This is by far the best gift I’ve found to give my clients, and it keeps my looking good, looking good...

Take Me Home

When my little brother came home from the hospital two decades ago he was allergic to everything! The Take Me Home Organic Ensemble for Mother and Child would have been perfect. There wasn’t a lot of organic products readily available or affordable back then. The blanket is more than roomy enough to wrap the new baby in and there’s a cozy hat too. I like the stuff for Mom; everyone could use the virtual bliss in a bottle spray. I love the essential oils that smell yummy. Who could go wrong with tea and body butter? I love that the items are all organic and in neutral tones. I hope someone sends me this gift when I have...
