A Day in the Life of GiftTree’s Production Team

Have you ever enjoyed a product without appreciating the amount of work, dedication and passion it took for the product to be produced? For instance, I love to eat crab and used to take for granted how it ended up on the menu for me to order…until…I watched Deadliest Catch. I now have a whole new found appreciation for the sacrifice and commitment it takes for me to enjoy crab cakes. I normally spend a great deal of my day interacting with our resellers and eFlorists, blogging for GiftTree and responding to our charitable donation requests. I had little understanding, or appreciation, for what it takes to produce our end product. In an effort for me to be able to have a better understanding of our products it was decided that I should spend a day in the life of our production team. Besides the fact that we chose the hottest day of the year for me to spend in the warehouse, it was an enlightening day. I started the day working with Amy Edwards in our personalization area. Amy takes the time to make sure that every personalized gift looks perfect. She is an amazing bow maker and pays attention to the little details that I wouldn’t have thought about. Like making sure the GiftTree scissors, that are a complimentary gift with every gift basket purchased, are arranged on the gift just right and that the message on the ribbon is centered and spaced perfectly. Her attention to detail is impeccable. After lunch I had the privilege of working with our production team as we assembled a couple...

School’s Out for Summer

School is almost out in our area and while my son is thinking about all the fun he’s going to have this summer, I’ve been reflecting on the last year. My son’s school counselor is fantastic and I’ve decided to send her a gift to thank her. She started as the counselor for the students in my son’s grade in middle school. Then she bumped up to high school so she could stay with them through graduation. While that’s pretty darn commendable in itself, I can look back to the last year and think of several times that she went above and beyond. Let’s see, there was the time during class scheduling for the next term that my son wanted to sign up for an easier math class rather than staying on his honors math track. His counselor told him absolutely not and took all the heat. Yay, I’m not the bad guy for once! Then, there was the countless times that she encouraged, almost insisted, my son do volunteer work to help with his college applications in a couple of years. As a result, my son’s time with the Boys and Girls Club has been priceless for him. And of course there have been times that, since my son is no perfect angel…well, let’s just say she’s been there for us all. So this year, we’re sending her the International Beer Chest. Seriously, this woman deserves to have a beer on us! I hope she goes home after the last day of school and cracks one open while lounging in the sun in her back yard. Then, just...

So You Want to Know About Wine?

For the past few years, my knowledge of wine and wine related things has increased dramatically. One of the main reasons for that is my job here – it’s helpful to customers if you know about wine, especially if they want to send a wine gift. Also, wine and I get a long so well, I wanted to know more about it! So here are are a few things for you to ‘get to know’ my good friend wine! Common wine terms & what they mean: Nose – This is the scent or the aroma of the wine… it’s ‘bouquet’ if you will. What you get when you first smell the wine. Legs – When you swirl your glass of wine, if you notice ‘streaks’ sliding down from the top of the glass, these are the ‘legs’. Typically the higher the alcohol content in the wine, the more legs it will have. Finish – The finish is the after-taste that the wine leaves. A long finish would mean the taste lingers in your mouth more than a short finish. Vintage – Refers to the year that the grapes used to make the wine were harvested. Varietal – This refers to the specific grape type. For example, Chardonnay, Riesling, & Sauvignon Blanc are varietals of white wines; Pinot Noir, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon are varietals of reds. Fun Facts about wine: The average bottle of wine holds about 2 ½ pounds of grapes! There is around 100 calories in a 5oz glass of white wine and 110 in a glass of red wine. More wine is consumed in the USA on...

Remembering Birthdays

When I was younger, my grandparents used to send me a card every year for my birthday. It was usually a homemade card and $20 or so to spend on something for myself.  I am not sure how she, or anyone for that matter, remembers birthdays without help. I have never been able to successfully manage a personal planner or keep track of occasions using a wall calendar. I have high hopes when I purchase a planner or calendar but I always forget to check it regularly and end up missing birthdays. If you haven’t discovered GiftTree’s Occasion Reminder service yet, I bet you have forgotten a few birthdays too. When you visit GiftTree’s website you have the ability to establish a free account. Administrative Professional’s Day

If you haven’t been watching your calendar, you may not realize Admin’s Day is today! Administrative Professionals Day always falls on the Wednesday of the last full week of April. If you are not familiar with the holiday (and you have been trying to figure out what your admin has been hinting at), Admin’s Day is an unofficial U.S. holiday created by the International Association of Administrative Professionals in 1952 to honor administrative professionals nationwide. The holiday used to be known as Secretaries Day but the name was changed to its current name in 2000 in order to include all administrative professionals. It is often customary for employers to give gift baskets or flowers to admins on this day (this might be what the hints were about). Admin’s Day is one of the largest work related holidays in the United States. According to the United States Bureau of Labor, there are currently about 4.3 million secretaries and administrative assistants in the United States. It is one of the largest occupations in the U.S. If you aren’t prepared yet for Admin’s Day, don’t worry, we have quite a few gift options available to help you out. If you are a last minute shopper, many of our gifts can usually be delivered on the same day you order if you place your order early in the day. We even have a whole section of our website dedicated to our favorite Admin’s Day gifts. So, check out our website. And if you have any stories about why you appreciate your admin, please leave a comment. I would love to hear...
