Spirited Gifts for Inspirational Women

Spirited Gifts for Inspirational Women

This Friday, March 8th is International Women’s Day! Here at GiftTree we’re big supporters of this holiday, and have the Women’s Day gifts to prove it. But first, here’s a little about the history of IWD. Even though the holiday was made “official” by the United Nations in 1975, the first IWD was declared in the US in 1909. In the turn of the 19th century, women’s oppression and inequality was inspiring women to become more vocal and active in campaigning for change. Then in 1908, 15,000 women marched through New York City demanding shorter hours, better pay and voting rights. (Source) International Women’s Day Today Today, the world has indeed seen progress toward equality for women, but there is still work to do. Women are not paid equally to their male counterparts. They’re not present in equal numbers in business or politics. Globally, women’s education, health and the violence against them is worse than that of men. However, we have female astronauts and prime ministers, girls are welcomed to universities, it’s possible for women to have careers and families. Women have real choices. And so, each year on International Women’s Day, the world inspires women and celebrates their achievements. Celebrate the strong, inspiring and successful women in your life with a gift! Why We Gift Wednesday (Acts of Kindness Edition)

Why We Gift Wednesday (Acts of Kindness Edition)

Welcome to another edition of Why We Gift Wednesday! Each week, we celebrate all the reasons that we love giving. Whether it’s honoring relationships that we have, feeling grateful for an occasion or a special time of year, or relishing life’s simple joys, Why We Gift Wednesday is all about giving and generosity – the expression of appreciation for life’s most significant moments. Today is all about kindness! Perform an Act of Kindness Today! Saturday October 20th is Sweetest Day  – it sounds like a romantic holiday, right? However, contrary to popular belief, Sweetest Day’s purpose is kindness. After noticing the many orphaned and underprivileged children in Cleveland, a candy maker there decided to create the holiday. So the purpose was not to sell candy, but to give it away. There are so many things you can do to help someone in need today. Elderly neighbor? Offer a ride to the grocery store or the Doctor! Seeing a lot of trash around the city park? Gather some friends and have a clean up party.  Make a donation to a charity. Invite that new co-worker out to lunch or happy hour.  Call a family member you haven’t spoken to in awhile. Send a gift to someone you know could use a pick-me-up! Whatever you decide to do, show others that they are thought of, cared for and appreciated. Even the smallest gesture can have a big impact – making someone aware that they’re noticed can change the course of a whole day.  ...
Celebrating Sweetest Day

Celebrating Sweetest Day

Saturday, October 20th is Sweetest Day! “What is Sweetest Day?,” you ask, “Is it like Valentine’s Day?”  Contrary to common belief, Sweetest Day is not a romantic holiday for couples at all. Think of it more as a “Gesture of Kindness Day”. While only a small portion of the United States knows about this Midwest tradition, we’re all about celebrating Sweetest Day here at GiftTree. The History of Sweetest Day Since the 1920s, Sweetest Day has been an Ohio tradition every third Saturday in October. A candy maker in Ohio named Herbert Kingston created the holiday because he wanted to give candy away (rather than boost sales) as a gesture of kindness to the poor and needy in Cleveland. Sweetest Day’s original name was “The Sweetest Day of the Year”, because it’s an opportunity to remember those less fortunate and do something sweet. What Sweetest Day Looks Like Today Today, people give each other Sweetest Day gifts in the form of candy, flowers, or greeting cards to those who may sometimes feel forgotten about. They want to show them that they’re thought about often, cared for and loved. With that, GiftTree has a great collection of Sweetest Day gifts – here’s some of our personal favorites, guaranteed to make everyone feel special. And if you order before 2pm on Wednesday 10.17.18, you can have your sweet gift delivered in time. French Macaron Collection Pastry masters Bo & Bon present a collection of macarons. Handcrafted using only the finest ingredients, these French confections are sweet, crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. Presented in a gift box, it’s a sophisticated gesture for Sweetest Day! 29 Kosher Macarons...
