Friday’s Featured Artisan – Mer-Sea & Company

Welcome to Friday’s Featured Artisan! Each week, we focus on one of the many talented individuals and companies whose perfect products are proudly featured in GiftTree gifts. It may be a master chocolatier, a gourmet cheesemonger or a talented artist – GiftTree is here to connect their meaningful stories to the discovery of your next great gifting moment. Friday’s Featured Artisan Mer-Sea & Co. got their start in Kansas, when three friends were looking to get back into creative work after tiring of their careers in various professional fields. Even in middle America, they were inspired by all things ocean, beach and sea, so they set out to capture that essence through their products. Combining their talents in design, development and sales, they created a collection of gifts inspired by and derived from the sea itself. Every product in the Mer-Sea collection – from candles to luxury bath and body products – aspires to capture the essence of the beach and the ocean. On their website, Mer-Sea writes “We begin and end with simplicity. Trusting our own instincts, we only make what we would give to our dearest friend.  We put a lot of thought into every product and believe details matter. Mindful products and minimal packaging are central to our development process. Our artisan soy wax blend candles are hand-poured in the USA using fresh fragrances and packaged in beautiful locally-sewn canvas bags. Our palette is sea-salt bleached hues of white, grey, and blue mixed with little flashes of silver and is a fusion of all the colors found in the sea. Key to everything we do is our message—on all of our products you will find tags with tiny bits...

Friday’s Featured Artisan – Savannah Bee Company

Welcome to Friday’s Featured Artisan! Each week, we focus on one of the many talented individuals and companies whose perfect products are proudly featured in GiftTree gifts. It may be a master chocolatier, a gourmet cheesemonger or a talented artist – GiftTree is here to connect their meaningful stories to the discovery of your next great gifting moment. This Friday’s Featured Artisan is all about the sweet stuff – honey, that is. Savannah Bee Company grew out of Beekeeper Ted Dennard’s passion for bees, beekeeping and honey. Based in Savannah, Georgia, their specialty certified kosher honey is the result of 35 years cultivating and perfecting the world’s best honey, used in food, health and beauty products. GiftTree is proud to partner with Savannah Bee Company for two honey gifts – one for the body and one for the tastebuds!   Sourwood trees bloom late in June through August and need copious sunshine and rain to produce enough flowers to yield a honey crop, so this Southern Appalachian favorite is a rarity indeed. When harvested, Sourwood honey has beautiful lavender hues that slowly darken to a dusky straw color as it ages. This award-winning honey is big and complex with hints of maple and spice. Sourwood honey boasts huge flavor and it’s bright enough for basting grilled chicken or pork tenderloin. For a real Southern treat, drizzle some warm Sourwood honey on pancakes or french toast. Your gift will arrive in a 20 ounce bottle, carefully sealed by hand-dipping in Sourwood beeswax. Labeled with a Savannah Bee wax seal, each bottle is hand-numbered to show its unique place in this limited edition line...

In 1999, the Phelps family added 100 acres of vineyard property near the town of Freestone on the Sonoma Coast, where they now grow pinot noir and chardonnay grapes. Phelps Vineyards is best known for its flagship Napa Valley blend of red Bordeaux varietals, Insignia, first produced in 1974. Friday’s Featured Artisan – Mehlenbachers Taffy

Friday’s Featured Artisan – Mehlenbachers Taffy

Welcome to Friday’s Featured Artisan! Each week, we focus on one of the many talented individuals and companies whose perfect products are proudly featured in GiftTree gifts. It may be a master chocolatier, a gourmet cheesemonger or a talented artist – GiftTree is here to connect their meaningful stories to the discovery of your next great gifting moment. They call their taffy “the best tasting taffy on Earth”, and we agree! Friday’s Featured Artisan Mehlenbachers Taffy started with an original secret recipe passed down from a gentleman of humble roots (his name is unknown – he is simply referred to as “The Gentleman!”), who made taffy in small batches and travel to local festivals fairs and farmer’s markets around New York. Crowds would gather to watch him cook, cool, and pull the taffy as he sold his product. He would cut the fresh taffy into slabs and sell it by the pound on wax paper, to be enjoyed right there on the spot. He usually sold out of this delicious taffy – people only had to taste it once to keep coming back! When he retired, The Gentleman sold his business to one Dorothy Mehlenbacher, who gave the company its namesake and continued expanding over the next thirty years. Even though she experimented with different colors, flavors and packaging methods, she stayed true to The Gentleman’s original recipe and continued hand-pulling each small batch of taffy. Mehlenbacher’s Taffy eventually grew from a small traveling operation to a regular commodity inside Dorothy’s candy shop. It began to attract attention from multiple media outlets, from local news shows and publications, eventually reaching across the country. When it was time for Dorothy to...
Friday’s Featured Artisan – Beekman 1802

Friday’s Featured Artisan – Beekman 1802

Welcome to Friday’s Featured Artisan! Each week, we focus on one of the many talented individuals and companies whose perfect products are proudly featured in GiftTree gifts. It may be a master chocolatier, a gourmet cheesemonger or a talented artist – GiftTree is here to connect their meaningful stories to the discovery of your next great gifting moment. Sharon Springs, New York is the home of the historic Beekman Farm, known as Beekman 1802 for the year of its establishment and the surname of the original landowner. It was also what was meant to be a simple rural vacation spot for owners Josh and Brent, when they purchased it in 2007. At the time, the duo lived and worked in New York City, one as an advertising executive and the other in the magazine publishing business. During the 2008 recession, they both lost their jobs. Deciding to leave New York City and move out to their summer getaway farm permanently, the farmstead actually became their lifeline when they decided to learn how to take care of dairy goats, make cheese and produce soap. With the help of nearby farms and wonderful, patient neighbors, Josh and Brent used their city-honed skills to market their products, producing a line of soaps, cheeses, kitchenware, cookbooks, bath and body essentials and so much more. Today, Beekman 1802 is now one of the leading lifestyle brands in the country. Josh and Brent were also the grand prize winners of The Amazing Race in 2012, and now have their own lifestyle show on The Cooking Channel, called The Fabulous Beekman Boys. GiftTree happily (and exclusively!) carries the Fresh...
