Why We Gift Wednesday (Yardwork Edition)

Why We Gift Wednesday (Yardwork Edition)

Welcome to Why We Gift Wednesday! Each week, we celebrate one of the thousands of reasons that we truly love giving. Whether it’s honoring the relationships that we have, feeling grateful for an occasion or a special time of year or relishing life’s simple joys, Why We Gift Wednesday is all about giving and generosity – the expression of appreciation for life’s many happy moments. Winter is coming. This time of year it’s safe to say that many of us are spending at least a little time gearing up for the snow and ice, so this Why We Gift Wednesday is all about yardwork! A lot of preparing for the winter months involves raking up the three hundred billion leaves that have fallen off the trees. If left on the ground, these leaves can suffocate the grass underneath once the snow starts piling up. The good news is that raking leaves is often a task we can delegate to the kids in the family to teach them a lesson or two about the importance of contributing to the household chores. Studies show that assigning household chores to our kids has many benefits—academically, emotionally and even professionally. And when the back-breaking task of cleaning up the yard for the long cold winter ahead is done, why not thank them with something sweet? GiftTree offers lots of cozy gift ideas to reward the family for all their hard work.     Comment Below What were the household chores assigned to you when you were a...

The Perfect Cup: Gifts for Tea Lovers

The Perfect Cup: Gifts for Tea Lovers

With cooler days ahead, there’s nothing quite like a steaming cup of tea. It is an experience of the senses – the mug warming our hands, various flavor notes filling our noses, the steam dancing before our eyes. There is a method and a rhythm to steeping tea. Everyone has their own cadence, their own preference as to how their tea is made, to the point that it becomes ritual. More than that, tea is often the centerpiece around which we and loved ones surround ourselves. When company comes over or a neighbor stops by, when someone is under the weather or have had a bad day, it is often a hot cup of tea that we offer them as an extension of our generosity and care. The history of tea, including the ways we use it to bond with others, goes farther back than one may imagine. Chinese legend tells that the history of tea dates back to 2737 B.C.E. (yes, that number is correct!) when Emperor Shen Nong accidentally discovered the drink. While boiling water in the garden one day, a wild tea leaf fell into Nong’s pot. As an herbalist, the resulting concoction peaked his curiosity. He took a sip. And another. He loved the resulting drink so much that he began to research the plant. The legend ends by telling that the Emperor discovered tea’s medicinal properties during his investigation of the miraculous leaf. Since Nong’s discovery, countless traditions have stemmed from people’s love of tea. Before becoming the beverage of choice and a way of life, tea was considered a medicinal staple in China....

Get Ready for Grandparents Day!

Sunday, September 10th is National Grandparents Day, a special day where we honor those who have contributed to the shape of our character, and to show our gratitude to these role models for their immeasurable acts of love, care, and understanding. The official commemorative Grandparents Day is the Sunday after Labor Day, first established in 1978 when President Jimmy Carter signed the proclamation. Having wonderful grandparents is one of life’s biggest blessings. Not only do they see their grandchildren with eyes of unconditional love, but the care they put into raising our parent and the wisdom they impart is what raises us into upstanding people with integrity. And the chain continues as we grow older and have our own children, becoming grandparents ourselves. Want to honor your Grandparents with a gift? Why We Gift Wednesday – Brother Edition

Why We Gift Wednesday – Brother Edition

Welcome to Why We Gift Wednesday! Each week, we celebrate one of the thousands of reasons that we truly love giving. Whether it’s honoring the relationships that we have, feeling grateful for an occasion or a special time of year, or relishing life’s simple joys, Why We Gift Wednesday is all about giving and generosity – the expression of appreciation for life’s many happy moments. Today, May 24 is National Brother Day, so this Why We Gift Wednesday goes out to all our brothers, big or little! If you were lucky enough to grow up with a brother in your set of siblings, then you got to experience that special bond that only happens when a brother (younger or older) is thrown into the mix. Of course, they’ve been known to put gum in your hair, over-salt your food when you weren’t looking, or break your favorite dolls.  They may have been too cool for you once, too.  But having a brother meant that you could always count on them to be there for you, too – whether it was to protect you against bullies or unwanted attention, give you advice and provide encouragement that you carry with you through the rest of your life. Brothers come in many shapes and sizes, and so do their relationships.  Whether we have one or many, our brothers hold a special place in our hearts.  Even if for those who don’t have brothers, someone in their life is usually like a brother to them.  Brothers from other mothers are found in a best friend, a brother-in-law or a cousin.  Whoever your “brother” is to you, take the time...
