Celebrating Sweetest Day

Celebrating Sweetest Day

Saturday, October 20th is Sweetest Day! “What is Sweetest Day?,” you ask, “Is it like Valentine’s Day?”  Contrary to common belief, Sweetest Day is not a romantic holiday for couples at all. Think of it more as a “Gesture of Kindness Day”. While only a small portion of the United States knows about this Midwest tradition, we’re all about celebrating Sweetest Day here at GiftTree. The History of Sweetest Day Since the 1920s, Sweetest Day has been an Ohio tradition every third Saturday in October. A candy maker in Ohio named Herbert Kingston created the holiday because he wanted to give candy away (rather than boost sales) as a gesture of kindness to the poor and needy in Cleveland. Sweetest Day’s original name was “The Sweetest Day of the Year”, because it’s an opportunity to remember those less fortunate and do something sweet. What Sweetest Day Looks Like Today Today, people give each other Sweetest Day gifts in the form of candy, flowers, or greeting cards to those who may sometimes feel forgotten about. They want to show them that they’re thought about often, cared for and loved. With that, GiftTree has a great collection of Sweetest Day gifts – here’s some of our personal favorites, guaranteed to make everyone feel special. And if you order before 2pm on Wednesday 10.17.18, you can have your sweet gift delivered in time. French Macaron Collection Pastry masters Bo & Bon present a collection of macarons. Handcrafted using only the finest ingredients, these French confections are sweet, crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. Presented in a gift box, it’s a sophisticated gesture for Sweetest Day! 29 Kosher Macarons...

Friday’s Featured Artisan – Kopper’s Chocolate

Friday’s Featured Artisan – Kopper’s Chocolate

Welcome to Friday’s Featured Artisan! Each week, we focus on one of the many talented individuals and companies whose perfect products are proudly featured in GiftTree gifts. It may be a master chocolatier, a gourmet cheesemonger or a talented artist – GiftTree is here to connect their meaningful stories to the discovery of your next great gifting moment. Kopper’s Chocolate was founded by Fred “Pappi” stern who fled Nazi Germany with his family. Fred partnered with David Kopper, a European chocolatier, to combine old world chocolate sophistication with new world confectionary innovation. Kopper’s was the first company in the United States to combine chocolate and coffee and to make chocolate lentils (m&ms would follow).  And while the rest of the country was consuming milk chocolate, Kopper’s pioneered the market for high quality dark chocolate, setting the stage to become one of the world’s best chocolate panners. For more than 80 years, Kopper’s chocolates such as cordials, are still proudly made by hand in small batches at their New Jersey headquarters. GiftTree is a proud partner of Kopper’s Chocolate, and we’re delighted to offer two exclusively curated gifts to our chocolate collection – the Chocolate Espresso Bean Collection, with six varieties of robust espresso beans enrobed in rich chocolate, and the Cocktail Hour Chocolate Cordials Collection – a tasting menu of six chocolate liqueurs including rum, blackberry brandy, amaretto and Champagne. These unique and delicious chocolate gifts are perfect for so many different occasions, from birthdays to anniversaries, Father’s Day to Employee gifts.  ...

How to Make Chocolate Charcuterie Boards

How to Make Chocolate Charcuterie Boards

Cheese boards and charcuterie platters grace pretty much every party food table these days. Sure they’re delicious, but why not think outside the box and create your charcuterie board out of chocolate? It’s a heck of a lot more interesting than a bowl of candy! We promise your party will be the most memorable one that your guests attend this year! Here’s how to make chocolate charcuterie boards that will be raved over, devoured and talked about long after the party is over. Step One – Choose Your Surface. Slate is a great choice, as it provides a dark surface for the food to stand out, and plus if you want to label anything, a piece of food-safe chalk does the trick. Don’t have a slate? A wooden cutting board, a serving platter of any material or even a cookie sheet will work like a charm. Step Two – Choose Your Arsenal (and by that we mean chocolates). The most important thing to remember when deciding what’s going to go on your chocolate board is this – mix it up, in every sense of the word. Vary greatly between flavors, textures, sizes and shapes. For example, the last chocolate board we made here at GiftTree (sorry I forgot to take a picture!) had Godiva milk chocolate cashews, white chocolate cranberry almond bark, Ghirardelli dark chocolate raspberry squares, Dolcetto wafer rolls, tablets of solid dark and milk caramel chocolate and even some chocolate covered biscotti. Get creative! Milk chocolate malt balls, brownie bites, wafers, chocolate dipped apricots, pretzels… the possibilities are limitless. Step Three – Artfully Arrange & Garnish for Eye-Catchiness.  Unwrap...
