All About Sweetest Day

All About Sweetest Day

This Saturday, October 19th is Sweetest Day! “What is Sweetest Day?,” you ask, “Isn’t it just like Valentine’s Day?” Well, not a lot of people know about this lovely Midwest tradition, but here at GiftTree, we’re all about Sweetest Day! It’s actually not a romantic holiday for couples at all – think of it more as a “Gesture of Kindness Day”. Since the early 1920s, Sweetest Day has been a Midwest tradition, taking place every third Saturday in October. Originally, a candy maker in Ohio named Herbert Birch Kingston created the holiday not because he wanted to sell candy, but because he wanted to give it away as a gesture of kindness to the poor, the needy and the orphaned children in the city of Cleveland. Sweetest Day’s original name was “The Sweetest Day of the Year”, because its intention was to offer everyone an opportunity to remember those less fortunate than oneself and do something sweet. Today, people give each other Sweetest Day gifts in the form of candy, flowers, or greeting cards to those who may sometimes feel forgotten about, to show that they’re in fact thought about often, appreciated, cared for and loved. GiftTree has a great collection of Sweetest Day gifts – here are some of our personal favorites, guaranteed to make everyone feel special! If you order before 2pm on Wednesday 10.12.16, your gift will make it to its destination in time for Saturday’s Sweetest Day.   Blooming Splendor A study in loveliness, this pretty pastel bouquet is made with classic flowers for a look that is fresh from the garden. A stylish, sparkling lavender glass cube vase holds a fresh bouquet...

How To Write A Sincere Thank You Note

How To Write A Sincere Thank You Note

Have you ever felt like your “thank you” has gone understated? It’s as if you couldn’t quite find the right words to express your gratitude. It’s a difficult balance to write a thank you card that really gets through to the recipient. Many people find that their thank you notes swing too far to the left for right on the spectrum – too far in one direction, and they’ve sounded sentimental and disingenuous. On the other hand, too far in the other direction, the thank you note sounds disconnected, as if it’s an afterthought. So how do you write sincere thank you notes? Here are some tips and examples of what to write in a thank you card. How to Write a Sincere Thank You Note   TIP # 1: Consider Your Audience. The card that went to Grandma isn’t the same note that would go to your boss. Before you begin writing, considering your audience will help you consider your tone. Is the card going to a family member or loved one? That calls for sentimentality. Is the card going to a colleague, thanking them for a referral? Keep it polished and professional. Example 1: Personal Thank You “Just wanted to write a quick note to thank you so much for the card and the check. It means so much to me that you’re looking out for me and want the best for me! Thanks for thinking of me – I love and miss you so much!”   Example 2: Professional Thank You “We are sincerely grateful for your investment into our company. Thank you for your time...

Onward!   This Week’s Friday Wine Down Belmont Cliffs Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon Mount St. Helena, Napa Valley About This Wine In collaboration with winemaker Robin Akhurst of Clos Pegase, this limited-release reserve Cabernet Sauvignon is produced on the 40-acre Tenma Vineyard located in the foothills of Mount St. Helena, spreading from the Palisades Mountains in the Northeast corner of Napa Valley. The rocky terrain and sparse topsoil of this rugged vineyard create the perfect terroir for growing world-class Cabernet Sauvignon. Tasting Notes Full-bodied and concentrated, densely ruby-colored in the glass. On the palate, this boutique Cab boasts a silky entry with opulent flavors of boysenberry and black fruits, followed by a touch of creamy vanilla. Blend 100% Cabernet Sauvignon Serving & Pairing It is recommended that this wine is decanted for one hour before serving, and cellaring is encouraged through 2023. Serve this deeply textured Cabernet with rich sauces based in butter or cream that can stand up to the bold, unctuous flavors of Portico. New York Strip with parsleyed butter, roasted asparagus in a garlic béchamel, and brown sugar bread pudding make a perfect meal for this wine. Gifting Belmont Cliffs makes a perfect gift, as well!
