July Birth Flower: Larkspur

July Birth Flower: Larkspur

7301c_Pretty-in-PurpleDid you know that every birth month has its own flower, and each of those flowers has its own dedicated meaning? It’s believed that the Romans began this tradition as well as floriography, the language of flowers themselves. In general, the birth month flower is usually the plants that reach their peak blooming season during that month.

With July being the first full month of summer, there are many many flowers in season right now, from hydrangea to daisies and sunflowers But July’s birth month flower is none other than larkspur. Standing tall and beautiful, larkspur belongs to the buttercup family and blooms in a vast array of colors from pink to white to blue. Larkspur is thought to have earned its name because of its blossom – every bloom contains an elongated petal that looks like a spur, presumably like the hind claws of a meadowlark.

Larkspur flowers represent affection and laughter, a lightness of heart and a sweet disposition. If someone you know has a birthday in July, a bouquet containing larkspur is a perfect gift and a sentimental offering.

GiftTree has a few gorgeous flower bouquets that are perfect for sending during July birthdays, such as our Pretty in Purple Bouquet, containing gorgeous larkspur in white and purple as well as lush lavender roses and seeded eucalyptus.

Or send the Garden of Grace, with pink larkspur, spray roses and another blossom that is in its prime during the month of July, the hydrangea.

The image on the header of this blog is the Wonderful Day Bouquet, a tall and lovely bouquet of larkspur, matsumoto asters, freesia, snapdragons and more.
