Welcome to Why We Gift Wednesday! Each week, we celebrate one of the thousands of reasons that we truly love giving. Whether it’s honoring the relationships that we have, feeling grateful for an occasion or a special time of year, or relishing life’s simple joys, Why We Gift Wednesday is all about giving and generosity – the expression of appreciation for life’s many happy moments. Today is National Administrative Professional’s Day! Formerly known as Secretary’s Day, this day of honoring administrative assistants, receptionists, secretaries and other professional administrative positions was proclaimed in 1952 by Charles Sawyer, the US Secretary of Commerce. Chances are at your office, there’s at least one rocking admin. They keep our schedules organized, take copious notes at meetings, answer phones, greet customers, get the mail, assist the accountants, order all the office supplies and generally cover all of our butts. It takes a special kind of person to be an administrative professional – one with a keen eye for detail, who listens for and sees things in the fine print that most of us would miss.
Let your administrative professionals know how much you appreciate them today! It could be as simple as a handshake, or you can go above and beyond – send a company-wide email giving them praise, take them out to lunch, or surprise them with gift baskets, flowers or a personalized keepsake they’ll display on their desk! Whatever you do today, make sure that at 5pm as the business closes up for the evening, your admins know that their hard work and dedication doesn’t get taken for granted.
