Welcome to Friday’s Featured Winery! Each week, we focus on one of the many talented individuals and companies whose perfect wines are proudly featured in GiftTree gifts. It may be a famous Pinot-producer or an iconic Champagne House – GiftTree is here to connect their meaningful stories to the discovery of your next great gifting moment. This Friday we’re delighted to feature Opus One, a winery in the heart of Napa Valley with one vision and one wine – a single Bordeaux style blend of uncompromising quality.
Located in Oakville, Napa Valley, Opus One was founded as a realized dream and joint venture between Baron Philippe De Rothschild (of Chateau Mouton Rothschild in Bordeaux, France) and the Napa Valley vintner and icon, Robert Mondavi. Their intention was to bond together the old-world and new-world winemaking practices, creating a single Bordeaux-style blend.
The establishment of this winery was big news in the industry. In 1984, the first vintages (1979 & 1980) were released. Opus One received commanding reviews right away, and quickly became a dominate name among Napa Valley red blends. The current vintages, 2013 and 2014, are aged 17 to 18 months in French oak. A joining of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Malbec grapes, Opus One is perfumed with aromas of black currants, coffee, leather and violets. It’s a classically dry Bordeaux style blend that shows intensity to the flavors of spices, chocolate and coffee. The finish is a cool, herbaceous note with a touch of mocha and a strong tannin backbone.
Send Opus One as a gift and transform any special occasion into a monumental affair. With a glorious purity of fruit, a full body and seamless tannins, we’re honored to offer Opus One in many beautiful presentations. Select a lacquered Burlwood box that your recipient will treasure, long after the wine has been enjoyed. Or deliver an Opus One wine gift basket such as our Windsor Gift Basket, complete with gourmet pairings and a companion bottle of wine.
