Designing The Perfect Christmas Tablescape

Tablescapexmas

I’ll admit it… I’m one of those. December arrives and suddenly I’m Buddy the Elf – absolutely crazy about Christmas. And not just for the gift-giving and the decorations and the ugly sweaters and the sparkling Christmas parties (of course those things don’t hurt), but it’s the time of year when hearts truly are light, we’re in the mood to give, and those faithful friends who are dear to us gather near to us once more. And yes, I did just break out in song.

If you’re hosting a dinner or any holiday gathering this year, here are a few tips to create a Christmas tablescape that will serve you well to you bring out the Christmas spirit and evoke that merry and bright feeling with your holiday table décor.

Red Poinsettia

Tip # 1 Evergreen and poinsettias last… and last and last. If you’re planning on having family and friends dropping in and out through the holidays, or if you’re hosting more than one gathering, evergreens and poinsettias are where it’s at. Not only are they sure to look fresh and bright all throughout the holidays, they’re also perfect for bringing that festive, winter outdoors-y mood to the indoors.

Tip # 2 Christmas lights and candles, candles, candles. Whether you choose to string a line of mini-lights across your table runner or light a few candles, turning your overhead lights down low and casting that warm amber glow over the holiday dinner is a must. Pro Tip: Make sure your candles are unscented so as not to add any extra scents to the delicious food you’ve worked so hard to prepare!

Tip # 3 Opt for white linens and dishes and add splashes of holiday color. Choosing white (or off-white) linens and dishes means the set will come in handy for other special occasions throughout the year. You can count on those festive finishing touches to bring the holiday colors like red, gold, silver and green to your table with napkins, napkin rings, placecard holders, votives, and of course, your Christmas centerpiece, which brings me to my final tip….

Tip # 4 The CHRISTMAS CENTERPIECE! This is probably the most crucial part of bringing maximum holiday cheer to the table.
