Fruit Basket Bonanza
It wasn't the worst thing that ever happened to me but it was close.
It was the morning of my mom's birthday and this one really needed to be special. I forgot her birthday last year so this one had to be good. A friend had suggested that maybe a fruit basket would be special. I could make it up myself, with cellophane and ribbons, all the good stuff. Then I could take it over to her in the afternoon and surprise her with a hand-delivered gift. A fruit basket! Perfect!
So there I was in the produce section of Terrace Groves Supermarket, inspecting some Gala apples and avoiding the Red Delicious when it happened. I mean it REALLY happened. As I gently removed one of the apples from the display, I realized way too late that the one apple I had picked up was the cornerstone of the whole pyramid display!
Down came not just the Gala and the Red Delicious, but all the hundreds of apples nicely arranged for viewing pleasure! Crashing over me in an avalanche cascade came Granny Smiths and Braeburns, Fujis and Spartans. I tried to quickly escape but the applesauce mess underfoot just put me right back on the tile and left me seeing stars.
Everyone stopped and stared, and the produce manager came running over to see his pitiful display with me, feet in the air, flat on my back, covered in busted apples, crumpled price tags, and wet cardboard.
I apologized and quickly began my walk of shame back to the car. By that time it was late morning and I still really needed a gift, so I wiped my hands on my jeans, got out the iPhone and Googled “fruit baskets delivered today” - the first thing that came up was GiftTree.com
An Emergency Saved by Same Day Fruit Basket Delivery
Never heard of them, but man, did they have some fruit! Wondrous looking fruit baskets full of sun ripened oranges, juicy pears, crisp apples, grapes, peaches... everything I could imagine. The variety of fruit baskets was huge – any size, any price, many different options – with wine, sparkling cider, chocolate, gourmet items, or just fruit. And it could be delivered that same day. They could even do a happy birthday card at no charge. Amazing! I clicked what I wanted, the website was super easy to use and before I knew it I had a confirmation email that the basket was scheduled for delivery.
Around 6:30 that night, my mom called to say she got her fruit basket, so I went over to see her and we spent the evening together. The basket was so impressive! It had even more fruit than I would have bought for her myself, and it had the cellophane, the ribbon, and the birthday card. Mom was smiling from ear to ear and we shared a few special moments talking about old times and how much she loves birthdays.
I may not ever be allowed to enter Terrace Groves Supermarket again, but I know this won't be the last time I'll use GiftTree for a face-saving fruit gift.
