Cardinale creates a single, limited production Cabernet Sauvignon-based blend from each vintage, drawing from the distinct and diverse vineyards situated in the Mt. Veeder, Howell Mountain, and Stags Leap regions of Napa Valley. The geographic characteristics establish distinctive "footprints" of individual flavor components that lend to the unique and coveted complexity of this harmonious cuvee.

Tasting Notes:

A perfect balance of richness and vibrancy, this famed wine starts with a very fine nose of cedar, cassis, and violets, then turns dramatic and refined in the mouth. The wine has marvelous tannins, vast depth and length, and a full minute finish of sweet fruits and spices. It's a big, bold wine noted for its power, elegance, and voluptuous quality that defines Napa Valley winemaking at its finest.

Blend:

86% Cabernet Sauvignon and 14% Merlot

Cellaring:

Approachable now with proper decanting, though the wine has the stamina to be aged for ten years or more.

The 2008 Insignia boasts aromatic layers of dark roasted coffee and graphite. The seductive mouth-feel has excellent length, intensely ripe black fruit, minerality and creaminess that tie together seamlessly on the palate.

Tasting Notes:

Full medium ruby. Black fruits, minerals, licorice, tar, menthol and sweet oak on the nose. Sweet and creamy on entry, then quite penetrating... and rather powerful Insignia with the structure to require, and reward, considerable aging.

Blend:

89% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Petit Verdot and 4% Merlot

Cellaring:

With proper cellaring, this wine should give drinking pleasure through 2038.
