Red Wine Cuts Smoker’s Lung Cancer Risk

In yet another scientific study demonstrating the health benefits of moderate red wine consumption, a recent Kaiser Permamente survey of California male smokers found that smokers who drink red wine on a daily basis were less likely to develop lung cancer.

Of course, you drastically reduce your chances of developing lung cancer by not smoking – smoking increases your risk of lung cancer by a whopping 1000% or so. But if you must puff and you are a male, drinking a glass or two of red wine a day reduces your risk by approximately 60%. Take note, however, that the same benefits are not reaped by drinking white wine, beer, or spirits. This is due to the antioxidants naturally present in red grape skins that are also believed to explain some of the heart health benefits that men get from a daily glass of red wine.

Along those same lines, chocolate is another great source of antioxidants, making our Wine Lover’s Indulgence a great gift for that special guy in your life who is at least trying to quit smoking.
