On the Lighter Side…

I am a big fan of television programs that air bloopers or blunders and though it doesn’t happen every day here at GiftTree, we certainly have our share of them as well. Here is a sampling of some of our lighter moments:

  • Card message typo for a new baby gift: Congratulations on the newest addiction in your family. Hope you’re not up all night long with this one!
  • A customer e-mailed me a very nice compliment, and though I intended to forward it to my supervisor, I selected reply instead and entered: “I rock, I rule! I told you I was good!” Imagine my horror when the customer replied to me, “Indeed you do rock! Feel free to pass this along to your supervisor or manager if you’d like.”
  • Our supervisor was talking with a customer one evening and kept being interrupted by the customer talking to someone else in the background. She asked the customer if she would like her to hold for a minute while she finished her conversation. The customer said, “Oh no that’s okay. I’m just talking to the Jerry Springer Show on my TV.”
  • We frequently get calls for things a little out of our realm. One such call was from a young lady wanting to know if we could personalize several rolls of ribbon with the message: John is a (bleep). She wanted to string it around his frat house because he cheated on her.
  • A gentleman called in one evening about 5 minutes before we were to close. “Can you deliver a single red rose to Café’ Milano in downtown DC in about 20 minutes, and could you have the delivery person dress up like a bear and wait for my girlfriend to come in and then could you have him jump out and hand her the rose and sing Happy Birthday to her and give her a big bear hug, and could you do it for about 20 bucks?”
  • A customer called in to complain about a flower arrangement she received that she did not like. Our employee asked if she could send us a picture of it so we could see exactly what needed to be corrected. The customer drew a picture of it and e-mailed it over on print shop format. Too funny!
  • One time one of us answered the phone, “Gift Tree what can I do to you this evening?”
  • A gentleman called in from the UK to order a balloon bouquet. At the end of the order he asked how much it would be in pounds and the employee responded, “Sir I don’t know how much they weigh but I know they float!
  • One time a florist delivered a funeral arrangement and included the Gift Tree employees name on the acknowledgment card by mistake. It turned out that it was also the name of the man’s ex-wife and his family was not too happy about the blunder.
  • Last but not least some of our favorite customer service questions/requests/comments:

1. What is the area code for your toll free number?
2. Do you have edible fruit in your fruit baskets?
3. Do your balloon bouquets include air?
4. Do your flower arrangements have water or do I purchase that separately?
5. Could you please make the flowers look nicer than they are in the picture?
6. Can you make it bigger for the same price?

We LOVE our job and the fun we have doing it!

  1. I once got a call from a man who wanted to discuss a charge his daughter made on her own credit card. I said I had to talk to her directly, for security reasons, since it was her credit card, not his. He called me a feminist because I obviously oppose of talking to males.

  2. I don’t know how much they weigh but I know they float!!!!! Priceless.

  3. I agree Penny We DO love our job!
