Driven to Perfection

I have a 9 year old granddaughter who uses the word “perfect” quite a bit, and until this past week I didn’t realize how much my husband and I used it as well. We’ve been trying to teach her not to be so hard on herself and that it’s okay if things aren’t “perfect”. Like her hair in the morning. Could we have a little less drama please!? Or finding the perfect pair of pants, or the perfect shirt or the perfect pair of shoes. I’m smiling even as I write this because I know exactly how she feels. Finding the perfect ANYTHING is near impossible and yet something I know I’m always trying to do. Darn it! So, 8 days ago we all decided to see if we could eliminate the word “perfect” from our everyday vocabulary, and whoever slipped up had to put money into the Purple Perfect Pig, (purchased specifically for this experiment and a great source of free cash to the winner.) We all agreed we could use the word perfect only when referring to the Purple Perfect Pig and nobody would be penalized. Our granddaughter of course would be in control of the pig and making sure all violations were dealt with! Turns out it was harder on us (the grownups) than we thought it would be, and after about 4 days we realized that the word itself was actually appropriate for many things, but that we had only been using it for things that would really never be perfect. Like styling our hair. Who doesn’t know what it’s like to stand in front of a mirror and just feel complete despair over whatever the hair situation is at that exact moment? Actually, let’s not even go there with mirrors right now. The whole point is, there are things that are perfect just the way they are and then there are things we think are not perfect enough, and we try to make them perfect. So, we had to revamp the rules a little and we agreed that we would all decide if the word perfect was being used in the right way or the incorrect way before the money was forked over to the Purple Perfect Pig. I’ll tell you though, this has been a real eye-opener for me and a great experiment!

However, if you’re looking for an experiment in the correct application of perfection, you should check out our Party Perfect Tower. This is one of those things that you just can’t improve on. It’s perfect! From the stylish colors and attractive packaging all the way down to the last chocolate covered cookie dough ball, you will find yourself enjoying every last morsel. Go ahead and treat yourself or someone you know to a little piece of this gourmet perfection right now. You’ll then be prepared to tackle the incorrect application of perfection because you’ll have had such a great example of the real thing already! Now, about that mirror…
