On or Off the Registry

August 22nd, 2008 Sandy

Question:
Carol Drury Says:
July 20th, 2008 at 8:00 pm
Do you have to buy a gift off the gift registry, or can you get something unique and special, and one of a kind.

Sandy - Customer Service Representative
Answer:
Though I loved all of my gifts, I would have to say that my favorite ones are actually ones that reminded people of my husband and me. Couples will have a lifetime of buying practical things throughout their lives (which is usually what is registered for) so switch it up, and give them something truly memorable!

I Fell For Fall

August 19th, 2008 Netta

So now that my daughter is finally sleeping through the night, (thanks in part to some of the suggestions I received from my “Help for a Tired Mom” blog) enough thanks to you could never be given. And, as I’ve become a little more settled in here at GiftTree, I’ve been thinking that maybe I should actually start planning my wedding and getting some ideas. What a tedious task! Just kidding (kinda :)

I’m thinking of a Fall wedding, considering that it is by far my most favorite time of the year. I am always nicely surprised at how my mood brightens with the changing colors of the leaves, and how my spirit is invigorated with the crisp smell in the Autumn air. I just feel so alive!

So now that I have an approximate season, I just need to figure out where. I’ve seen a lot of really great venues from being a catering chef, but I don’t think I’ve ever been to a place and thought to myself: this is exactly where I want to have my wedding. Alright, so here is my selfish motivation behind this blog. Where are some of your favorite wedding venues? Let me know the places that caught your attention and why. Especially Fall or Autumn inspired settings if you have them. Tell me what you remembered the most and what you wouldn’t be without on your wedding day. Thanks in advance for helping me make my day!

The Importance of Detail

August 13th, 2008 Penny

Several months ago my granddaughter was asked to be a petal girl in a wedding for a friend of mine. She was very excited! The invitations arrived and they were beautiful. A special little pouch contained an RSVP form with a stamped return envelope, a map, a list of accommodations for overnight travelers and a seating chart for the reception. We immediately RSVP’d and began planning our trip.

We found the perfect dresses, purses, shoes and all of the usual stuff that goes into a day such as this. The big day finally came and my granddaughter could barely contain her excitement. Every detail you could imagine had been planned for and packed the night before with no room for error. Off we went.

Weddings, Weddings, Weddings.

August 5th, 2008 Netta

I guess I am just at that age and place in my life where everyone that is in my circle of friends and even my self are getting married. I am of course starting to think about my wedding, I have four friends planning their weddings, and my sister is getting married this September. WOW! That got me thinking, September is next month, and I need to get a gift for my sister. ……where did this year go anyway?

My sister is not your typical girl. She is a welder by profession, and has played professional women’s football for the New England Intensity. Needless to say she is not at all girly, nor Frilly, lacy, pink, or pretty anything!  I think that the best way to go as far as gifts is to get them something classy and neutral.

I really like our Engraved Toasting Flutes. It’s a gift they can actually use during the wedding, and then use for special occasions and their anniversaries. I also like the Engraved Frame. I can have their names and the date of their wedding engraved on the frame so they could of course put their wedding picture in it, and who knows a couple years down the road that little date reminder might come in handy!

Weddings and Recon Missions?

July 31st, 2008 Netta

If bride’s maids and best men of today think they have it tough, they have no clue. Back in the day, the responsibilities of these two now very traditional positions was vastly greater then planning perverse bridal shower entertainment, or bachelor party debauchery. These positions actually consisted of dangerous undertakings, and scary propositions.

The best man found it’s origin from the Germanic Goths, where it was customary for a man to marry a woman from within his own community. Of course, when woman were in short supply, a military like recon mission would be launched on a neighboring village. This is where the groom would select only the “best” man he knew to take along for this stealthy and very dangerous endeavor. Read the rest of this entry »

Anniversaries

July 28th, 2008 Janet

The Anniversary…everyone loves to be remembered…Anniversary literally means to return yearly. The Wedding Anniversary originated in Central Europe in the Middle Ages. Medieval Germans presented their wives with a wreath of silver for 25 years and a wreath of gold for 50 years. We now call them Silver and Golden Wedding Anniversaries. In the United States they simply began with paper and flowers. From the very first kiss to a life of wedded bliss, your anniversary represents love compassion and friendship. Whether it’s the first or the 50th an anniversary is a special time to share with your significant other.  The gift of flowers is very popular whether modern or traditional. Here are some flowers that represent anniversaries. Read the rest of this entry »

Bridal Boogie

July 23rd, 2008 Netta

Music is such a huge part of my life. I always seem to have music around me whether it be coming from a radio or jamming in my head. I am honestly one of those people who feel that some people and most animals seem to have their own theme music, and whenever I see them, their theme music is what plays in my head. I know crazy, but I never claimed to be anything like normal.

As I’ve said, I do everything with music, and so many of my memories are intertwined with melody. Music is one of those things that when you hear that certain song it takes you right back to that feeling, that moment, that time. Almost like traveling in a little time machine. With starting to plan one of the most important miles stones in my life, my wedding, I’ve been trying to think of what that song or songs will be. The ones that will take me right back to that moment, that feeling, that time. Now to be perfectly honest, I’m not really looking forward to planning my wedding. I was never one of those little girls who flew around the house with the pillow case as a veil, and a rolled up magazine as a bouquet. However, I do love to get down, and I’ve explained the importance that music plays. So needless to say, music will definitely be one of the more important aspects of my big day.

What are your wedding day music memories? Is there a song that no matter where you are or what you are doing takes you back? Maybe the one that played as you walked down the aisle, or when you first saw your soon to be wife? Maybe your first dance or the one that got everyone to the dance floor to commence with a boogie down?

The Perfect Wine Gift

July 9th, 2008 Jeannie

Wine Gifts: Peugeot Contemporary Decanter with Fluted StopperWhat an elegant wine decanter this is! The Peugeot Contemporary Wine Decanter is going to become my favorite wedding gift. This is such a unique design, I am sure to be giving the only one they receive. It is so tiresome to give the standard towel set or the appliances that end up in next year’s garage sale. I have resorted to giving gift-cards so that the newlyweds can purchase whatever they want or need, but that feels boring to me. There is just no energy in a gift-card. Now, all we need is a nice bottle of wine…

Wedding Flowers

July 7th, 2008 Luba

Have you ever wondered what a wedding would be like with out the flowers and/or other decorations? Will it feel like a wedding? This Saturday I went to a friends wedding, and couldn’t help but think how special the flowers made the entire day more pleasant. Flowers make the photographs more romantic. They make the bride and bridesmaids more beautiful and unique. Even the groom and groomsmen look more handsome. The cake appeared delicious, and in just about every way they make the entire wedding more wonderful. This whole experience made me realize how important florists are and how much we don’t give credit to them. Their talent and experience is what makes our dream weddings come true.
