Wineries & Vineyards in the Sacramento and surrounding area
For three generations the Lanza family has worked the vineyards of Wooden Valley Winery. Today, it is still a family operation, with Mario's son Richard and his four sons working together to produce award-winning estate bottled wines.
Nestled among the vineyards and rolling hills of Suisun Valley, the winery is a few miles off Interstate 80 and located only two miles from the Napa county line.
Our tasting room offers free samples of our varietals and blends, served at the bar built from the giant redwood casks that once were used in the winery to ferment the harvest.
If you plan to come, bring a lunch and enjoy your purchase on our picnic grounds. We also sell some tasty goodies to round out your meal and complement your wine selection. Browse the gifts available and maybe take home a Wooden Valley souvenir.
In 1981, Dennis and Judy Groth Groth purchased a 121 acre parcel in Oakville. In 1982, they added a second vineyard of 44 acres located south of Yountville. These vineyards, which total 165 acres on the valley floor of Napa, are the primary source of grapes for the Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc wines produced by Groth Vineyards & Winery.
Groth Vineyards & Winery was established in 1982, and they first crushed grapes for their own wines this same year. Production increased quickly to 30,000 cases by 1984. In 1985 the Winery deserved, and needed full-time attention from Dennis and Judy. They moved their family to the Oakville property. In 1989 the Winery building was completed. Since 1982 Groth Vineyards & Winery has established its reputation as an outstanding producer of Napa Valley Wines.
Frasinetti Winery was founded on the southern edge of Sacramento, California over 100 years ago in 1897. The anniversary marks a century of wine production, making Frasinetti the oldest family-owned and operated wine producer in the Sacramento valley.
Bring Your Own Bottle Restaurants in Sacramento
James Frasinetti, the founder, was an Italian immigrant who brought with him the "Old World" winemaking knowledge and a desire to build a reputation for his quality wine.
Originally, wines were delivered into Sacramento by horse-drawn wagons. At its peak, Frasinetti Winery had planted 400 acres and was shipping wine by the railroad distributing as far as the East Coast. Prohibition struck in the 1920's and most all wine production ceased. The winery survived by selling grapes for table use and making "altar wine" for the church. During this period, the Frasinetti family concentrated on farming.
