The mission of the Birmingham Zoo is to instill in its visitors and other interested parties an appreciation of wildlife that will promote the conservation of natural resources.
The Zoo will maintain its animals with the highest regard for their need as individuals and species. To this end, we expect no less than excellence in ourselves and our work. We will provide opportunities for employees and volunteers so their work will create a monetary self-sufficiency for the Birmingham Zoo to be able to practice continuous and meaningful conservation through wildlife education and recreation. Our success will be measured by our ability to produce positive results in conservation and verified by the respect of our peers that we are true conservators of nature.
